Charles Taylor Interview with PPC

Charles Taylor" PP Alum

PPC: What is your main occupation these days?
CT: I am currently a designer. I started my own showroom/retail space in San Diego called mixture about 6 years ago. I recently sold my partnership in that to move back to Dallas and be closer to family. I am in the process of opening up a new space in the Dallas Design District.

PPC: So you think your time with Page Parkes helped prepare you for your career? If yes, how so?
CT: Obviously, all of the traveling really opened my eyes to all of the possibilities for architecture and design back here in The States. Exposure to different cultures, working for yourself and being self-reliant , languages, cuisine, music, world-wide many things could be counted in the preparation category. I know I would be a slightly different person had I not left Texas.

PPC: Do you have a favorite person/experience that you met/had through the Page Parkes Corporation?
CT: I really enjoyed my first trip to Paris when I was about 19 or 20 years old. I had never really been out of Texas and here I was, by myself, with a map of Paris, trying to find my way around that city. I lived by myself for the first few weeks and I just had to go out there and figure it all out. It was a bit scary to try and make friends, learn to communicate with the French without pissing them off ;), etc. But the sense of autonomy I got from being there (when most of my friends were at college) and working, supporting myself and seeing the city and all of its history, really changed the course of my life.

PPC: Where was the coolest place you have traveled?
CT: I have always loved Greece, I would live there in a heartbeat...Egypt was pretty amazing too! It's all fantastic.
