Employee Spotlight: Meet Sage Hooton!

TITLE : Scout/Career Advisor at Page Parkes Center of Modeling and Acting

My first role is to screen people for this industry . First, I educate them about what it takes to be successful and what the reality is of this industry. With modeling and acting there are no guarantees, and I have to make sure that people understand how hard and competitive this industry can be. Second, if this is an industry I think they are ready for, then I help them get started with their journey! To become an actor or a model, you have to study and at PPCMA I place my students in the appropriate classes and watch them grow and develop into amazing talent!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT PAGE PARKES: I interned here for 6 months before becoming full-time, so in total I have been here almost 2 years!!

YOU HAVE YOUR RADAR ON? finding the next star that is dedicated and driven!

FAVE AGENCY MOMENT: we have an intercom system on our phones and when I first started working here I didn’t really know how to use it, so I would walk to everyone’s office if I had a question rather than “buzzing” them on the system!

I look for people that have the desire, personality, and potential to be in this industry. I look for people that WANT to do this because this is not an easy industry to get into. A lot of great actors really struggle before they become successful. Rejection is inevitable and people have to be mentally prepared for that. Before people start their journey, I have to make sure that this is something that they are willing to go through and I'm willing to help them along the way!

SUCCESS STORY: The first student I signed up for classes with Page Parkes Center of Modeling and Acting finished her training, auditioned for the agency and was accepted, that was a great moment! Then she immediately booked her first job with Academy. Since she was my first student, I consider her my own success story!

Check out this Mirror Mirror Segment with PP Stars!

This segment is set to air nationally on the Live Well Network starting on Tuesday, April 19 @ 4pm!

Professionals in the beauty industry are full of secret tips, tricks and techniques that they've picked up over the years. Here are a few that we picked up from them!

Beauty Photographer Kevin Hees has worked on some of the nation's largest beauty campaigns. So, we asked him how to make our face look flawless in photos?

Hees says, "I think the most important thing to remember when you're having your picture taken is to move forward. Look into the camera. Don't be afraid of it -- your whole persona changes when you are more aggressive and not afraid and relaxed."

It may seem obvious, but Hees adds, "Make sure you're really powdered, that you're not shiny or too dewy&That's probably one of the hardest things to retouch."

When you're planning your outfit he says, "The best rule of thumb is, keep it simple. Not too much. You know, you can have some color, but you don't want anything that distracts from your face."

Actress Shantel Van Santen says her favorite zit-fighter is a Zeno. "When we shot Final Destination we were in Louisiana in the summer in the humidity outside and we would always break out from all the makeup and sweating and they would stick it on your zit and just hold it there and the next day you wake up and it's gone!" she says.

Her secret for looking sexy in seconds? "Probably red lipstick. Because every now and then you don't have to wear a whole lot of makeup and you can throw on a red lipstick and you feel instantly sexy," she says.

The key to clothes that last season after season? "It's finding something I love that's a classic piece and then edging it up. Finding a top and wearing a leather skirt. Or finding a really great pair of shoes. You can never go wrong with just jeans, a great pair of shoes and a tank top," she says.

Makeup artist Edward Sanchez says don't break the bank buying expensive mascaras. Break your wand instead.

"The one thing that I love to do is actually take the wand and I bend it at 45 degrees& It allows you to have more angles [when you're applying mascara]," says Sanchez.

Dramatic eyes are a snap with salon owner Ashley William's five simple steps:

  • Base your eye with either an eye cream or a primer.
  • Apply a light shade of shadow over the entire area of the eye. choose a dark shade of eyeliner and apply it from the inside corner to a little past the outside corner of your eye
  • Sweep a little more eyeliner along the lower lashes
  • Layer dark shadow on the outer corner of your upper eyelid
  • Use a medium shade, either a neutral or you can play it up with something fun like a blue or a green, and apply that from the inside corner of the eye blending out into the darker shade.
  • Blend it all together and finish with mascara!
Makeup artist Darcie Teasley has a sticky little trick to draw a perfect eye liner line -- medical tape!
  • Tap a small piece of medical tape diagonally under your lower lashes up toward your temple
  • Follow the upper lash line with your liquid eye liner connecting the line to the medical tape (not too thick of a line). The further you go out, the more dramatic the line will be.
  • Then, just remove the tape!

Meet Our Rodeo Scholarship Contest Winner!

Just recently we held a Facebook contest with the Houston Galleria and asked for your best Rodeo photos! Meet Shannon Wilson, our winner! She was awarded a scholarship to the Page Parkes Center of Modeling & Acting!

Shannon Wilson tells us a little about herself:
I'm 6'0 ft and 16 years old.
I was born in Florida and moved to Houston when I was 2, started out doing dance then swimming for 8 years, played basketball for 3 years and now I've been playing volleyball for 7 years and plan on playing volleyball in college. I'm also involved with my youth group at church and FCA. I have a little brother who is 8 years old and participates in football, basketball, and motocross. I love photography as I am also apart of my yearbook staff at Cypress Ranch High School. And best of all, going to the beach and the lake are my pastime during the summer!
