The Confessional: Carol Davis

Carol Davis lights up a room with her personality and smile. She recently retired from her 9-5 job and now is a full time actress.

Now that you are retired, what is your favorite thing to do?  Go on Auditions!!! -:)

Who is your favorite actor and why?
"Oprah Winfrey", First,  because she is a very good actor that is able to connect me mentally and physically with the character that she is playing.
Second, because I love and enjoy all of the movies that she have selected to be in, most of which tells about the history of the black people, or an experience or suffrage  of a black woman back in the day.
Third,  because she is a  very successful strong female mentor, for all or most woman of any color, and mostly because I think that she and I have a lot in common, such as beliefs, age range, life experiences, diverseness, elegance,  energy, race, " Beauty"!!!!

How did you get into acting?  The Movie "The Kangaroo" was filmed in Houston in 1995, the funeral seen was filmed at my church, and they needed some extras to attend the funeral, I volunteered.  The casting director single me out and ask me to set with the principal acting family.
He said my crying was very good -:)  They also needed someone to play the sister of the deceased and walk up to the casket too, I got it.  My first audition!!  Years later I met a casting director name Michelle (friend of a friend), she referred me to my first Talent Agency Millennium .  I started taking talent workshops, and then I auditioned for the agency and they decided to represent me!!!

What has been your favorite booking so far and why? One of my favorite booking's has to be my first booking,  where I was cast as a principle for a couple (wife & husband)   for  the Elixir Type 2  Diabetes commercial .  Commercial ran for about 12 weeks in Houston, and other cities too.   Love it!!

Favorite food?  Seafood (Salmon)!

Thanks Carol!!

The Confessional: Shiree Nelson

Shiree Nelson is a one of a kind girl. She is beautiful, intelligent, kind, and beyond talented. You should definitely be on the look out for this girl rising to the top in Hollywood. Her time is coming and we couldn't be more excited for her. Obviously we're big fans and we know you will be too.

Follow her journey on Instagram...Shireester

Hi Shiree! What is your favorite thing about acting?

There are so many reasons why I love to act, but my favorite is the psychological experience I go through when bringing a character to life. This happens especially if it's a character that is nothing like myself. The challenge is rewarding. Allowing myself to feel things I never felt and mentally placing myself in situations I've never been in.

We know you love music, what are you currently into these days?
Wow. So much to choose from but I would have to say currently I have been digging the new Artic Monkeys album, Empire of the Sun, and Crystal Castles. Which I just saw Crystal Castles live in LA. If you're the slightest fan of them, that is a must-see show!

I need to look into Crystal Castles now. What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Being outdoors and being active. I have a hard time secluding myself to a gym, so my kind of workout is anything from hiking to playing beach volleyball with friends. If I'm not outdoors, you'll more than likely find me buried in a book.

Favorite booking so far and why?
My favorite booking so far would have to be Eastbound and Down. It's a show I've followed since Season 1 and to get the opportunity to guest star in their Season 3 finale was BEYOND surreal.

You definitely rocked in Eastbound and Down!! Next up and coming project that you will be in?
I have 2 up and coming projects in the works. First, I will be portraying the role of  "Mamma" in the dark drama "Henry Lee: Illegitimate Heir to the Throne" based on the early life of America's most prolific serial killer, Henry Lee Lucas. It is quite a challenging role, so getting prepared for the role has been a learning experience. Filming starts at the end of September. Following "Henry Lee" I will be headed to Fayetteville, TX  to shoot the supernatural thriller, "Dawn of the Crescent Moon" where I will be playing the role of "Dawn". The film is about 5 college students who travel to a small Texas town hoping to uncover the truth behind a local Comanche legend. My character befriends the five students and sheds light on the legend of Blood Lake. Filming starts in mid-October and I couldn't be more excited!

We can't wait to see these films!! Congrats on all of the success!

The Confessional:Leslie Rivas

Leslie Rivas, a talented and published stylist for Page Parkes Agency, tells us how she got started in the industry, her favorite moments, pet peeves and more.

Leslie has been featured in numerous magazines for fashion styling and creative direction. Check out the confessional below.

How did you get started in this business?  What inspired you to start?
I was a child model, for some years in California, I  became fascinated with the photo shoot process, especially the stylist role! My mother was very involved with fashion growing up so it was always around my life. I read an article once on a famous stylist had an  epiphany. I knew at that point  I wanted that type of life!

After high school, went to fashion school, got a degree in Fashion Merchandising  but in the meantime I started working at Page Parkes and interning with stylists. When I was ready to style on my own , photographer Arthur Garcia gave me a chance to style  a new male model, who within the same month after we shot,  got booked with Abercrombie and Fitch! The agency then offered me representation and been there ever since!

How would u describe your personal style    Not sure if I have a label, but I do love the dark bohemian look , if I could sum it up in a collection I would say Saint Laurent Spring 2013 RTW !I wear a lot of black and  like feminine flowy  textiles, opulent pieces  mixed with more structured  textiles... I collect vintage and lot's of jewelry so I never leave those house without a piece on! 95% of my shoes are black boots! In every shape and form, and yes- I  wear them even during  Houston Hot summer! Hats and Cat Eye Sunglasses are also essentials.

Whats the most exciting thing about being a stylist.

I like to think beyond the clothing, using fashion mainly as a tool to create images and stories with the creative team of photographers, art directors, hair & makeup artists

I love working with creative people/models/ teams! Styling fits my personality as I am always on the go and like a change of days.  I like that my office might be at a cool studio one day or in the mountains of Argentina the next! It''s not a consistent lifestyle but it never gets boring! Right now it's also pretty amazing I get to work with my husband, Fashion Photographer Collin Kelly and my sister  Bianca Linette is a hair and makeup artist, so its fun shooting with the "family" creating images together! Styling with incredible pieces by designers I love is a major treat as well!

Whats is the most frustrating thing?

There are few minor annoyances but the one i find myself going "AHHH" over a lot is that although I love living in Houston, trying to come up with the edgiest , innovating pieces for an editorial is often difficult. The majority of  stores only carry pieces that are more "wearable"  to the  Houstonian costumer and not as artistic or what you see on the runways. Sometimes I will have a vision of what I want but if the stores don't carry  them - Then I am having to rearrange the concept! Thank goodness for PR connections in major cities and a few local stores I can always count on!

Best lesson learned

Organization and Responsibility are Key!  It's also great to accept help, I have a great team of Interns who assist  me on major jobs.

What would you tell your younger self starting off in this business  Being Strong, Respectful, and having Confidence is highly important.  Always trust my instincts and know the life of an artist has a of of high and lows!
Future goals, short and long term   More traveling ! Starting to meet with new magazines and clients in other cities, that can allow us live in Houston and travel for work. We are also planning on getting more involved in the film industry, and  moving to New Orleans where there are major productions being filmed!
How do you feel about being a stylist for Page Parkes  It's like  being part of a  family. Everyone is so professional and supportive! It's rewarding  to be represented  by an agency but even better by one with such amazing people ! Page is such a caring, helpful , funny and kind hearted woman and I am truly honored to have her as a friend and supporter!

Closing thoughts.....Life , Family , Traveling  and Animals are most important to me My fashion inspirations can be found  on my blog www.wmysticsmen.com
